Sultan at Ten

Ten years ago, a warm, gentle bundle of joy entered our lives and completely redefined what love means. Today, Sultan turns 10.

For a breed so unfairly misunderstood, so constantly burdened by the weight of unwarranted stereotypes, Sultan has spent a decade proving that pitbulls are made of pure, unadulterated tenderness. Beneath that broad chest and athletic build lies a heart so gentle it could break you with a single glance.

Watching him grow old is a silent heartbreak wrapped in immense gratitude.

The signs of age are undeniable now. The dog who once zoomed across the room at lightning speed now prefers the quiet stillness of his resting spot. He rests more. He sleeps deeply, his chest rising and falling in rhythm with a peaceful retirement he has so deeply earned. Going up and down the stairs, once a effortless bound, has become a slow, deliberate task. His hips ache, and his walking is hesitant. His activities have reduced, and he now makes his complaints heard a little more often—little huffs, low grunts, and expressive groans that softly demand our attention to let us know something hurts or that he simply wants his pillow fluffed.

Yet, while his body slows down, his capacity for love remains boundless. The levels of affection in his soul haven't dropped by a single percentage point. His whole world still revolves around his family. He stays close to Mumma and Papa and spends quiet, peaceful hours by the side of his aging Dadi and Baba. But the moment Rohan bhaiya, Suvarnaa didi, and Prabhav bhaiya come home for a break, his entire face lights up like no time has passed.Just having them around turns his quiet space into a sanctuary of happiness.

And then, of course, there is his unwavering love for kampat (treats)—a timeless joy that age hasn't touched! A single treat is all it takes to bring out that same glowing, hopeful puppy inside him.

He still looks forward to car rides, though the nature of those journeys has changed. The wild excitement of hanging out the window has settled into a calm, gentle routine. But now, he gets a little scared of bumps and rough roads—a quiet reminder of the silent pain his joints carry. We drive extra slow for him now, taking every curve with care, treating our boy like the precious cargo he is.

Even with his aching legs, he refuses to skip his morning strolls with his beloved Sandeep bhaiya. Rain or shine, that routine is sacred. His relationship with the neighborhood street dogs has mellowed, too; the old hostility has faded into a quiet truce. But make no mistake—when Sultan steps onto the road, his presence is still undeniable. He walks with a majestic grace, and the street dogs quietly step aside, almost in a silent mark of respect for the old king on his morning walk.

Words genuinely fail when trying to describe the unconditional love reflecting in his eyes. When he sits by the door, patiently waiting, his gaze carries a depth of devotion that leaves you breathless. It is a look that says, I am here, I am yours, and I love you with everything I have.

Sultan, my baby, my majestic boy... I just want to see you happy, healthy, and deeply blessed. May God grant you a life of absolute contentment, free of pain, filled with soft beds, gentle drives, endless treats, and the warmth of the family that adores you beyond measure.

Looking at you today, my heart is overflowing with a gratitude so deep it feels like magic. So thankful to God for giving us the gift of your soul. Happy 10th Birthday to our forever hero, Sultan!
